Brethren, Since the Provincial Installation on 5 February 2016 my short time, so far, as Provincial Almoner has been busy but nevertheless very rewarding. At my first meeting of the Almoners Committee on 20 February I expressed my thanks to the Almoners, our Provincial Grand Master, the Commissioned Office-bearers and more especially you the brethren of our Province for the support I have received thus far and long may that continue.

It is sadly true that illness and bereavement has also played a large part in my short time in office. To those brethren who have suffered bereavement and those who are currently suffering ill health, on behalf of the Almoners of the Province our kind thoughts are with you and your families at this time.

Sir James McKay House

On Wednesday, 2 February 2016 accompanied by Past Provincial Grand Master, Bro George Preston I went along to Sir James McKay House to meet Gillian Hunter, Manager, and Catherine Anderson, Deputy Manager, and to partake of a tour of the facilities. Brethren, Sir James McKay House is a fantastic testament to our Craft and in, Gillian and her team we have a team of dedicated people who are committed to providing the best care possible for the Residents. For them it is more than a job, more a vocation.

How many of us make the connection between what we contribute at our meetings and this great facility. This was unique opportunity for me to learn more and generate interest in our younger Brethren who perhaps know little about Sir James McKay House.

Your Lodge Almoner will be given similar opportunity over the coming months so please ask plenty questions.

Almoners Fair

At the time of writing this blog the Almoners preparations for our annual fair are well under way. The fair is, once again, being held within the premises of Lodge Polkemmet, No. 927 on 30 April 2016. The Almoners would like as many of you and your families to join us on the day for what we hope will be a real family occasion.

Brethren, among the many stalls we hope to have on the day one particular stall will be of interest to those within the Scottish Craft, never mind within our Province, who collect Mark tokens. Yes, we are going to have what I think will be a unique bring and buy Mark token stall. So collectors at the ready and come along, buy, trade and help raise funds for our charitable causes.

I have personally asked many Lodges, through their Almoner to donate a Mark token for this stall. Thanks to those who have donated so far and to the rest you can expect a request very shortly.
